Weekend Roundup

New Arrivals at the online KnitOwl Toy Shop

We were at MamaMade in Franklin, TN on Saturday. There were lots of talented Mamas there selling their goods. The atmosphere was nice and friendly, and the owner of Lillie Belle's tea house offered up a private room for baby changing, so taking care of Esme without leaving the show was a breeze :)

I made friends with Lil from 3 Lil Muses and we talked about our children and crafts during the slow times. She makes beautiful children's clothing and has three little girls.

We here at KnitOwl made back our booth fee and a little more. It was a nice learning experience, since we had never been to a show like this before. Mark and I both went out in turn to the Franklin Main Street Fair with one of our slugs on his hat to pass out flyers. I hope it helped with the traffic ;) There's a picture but we have to get it off the small camera.

And when I got home I started working on my entry for Crammed Oraganisms again, which has to be mailed out ASAP.

MamaMade!

We're here at Mamamade! We left at 4 am and Mark drove us two hours to get here. It is raining at the moment but we hear there is a canopy to set up under. We're waiting for the coordinator to arrive.

There are 50-60 KnitOwl toys waiting to be taken out of their boxes and spread out on our table :) Esme is sitting in her carseat (she slept most of the way here) cooing and hugging her Mousebear.

Crafting365: day 31: Citrus stripes Zebra (and more to come)

A brightly colored Zebra baby toy with a little collar in a matching fabric. I need to stack up a few of these in different fabrics for MamaMade too.

MamaMade was featured on Music City Bloggers!

Back to the shop... I have so much to get done!

Crafting365: day 27: Special Edition Alien Monster Dolls for MamaMade

Aww, no baby yet for Rhiannon, but we're keeping an eye out!

Special Edition Alien Monster Dolls
Bright bold colors make for one weird looking but cute alien softie.
I'm making six for MamaMade (besides the normal colors)
There will also be one in the Online toy shop.

Esme says: 'What IS that thing Mom?'

Note: These are also the very first alien monster dolls to NOT be made of felt! Their mouths and eyes are still felt, but the body is in another cool bold fabric I found at the Paris quilting shop. It's called Michael Miller Pom-Pom Dots.

Esme's 'Esmerelda' pants

These are 3-6 months size and I'll make her a 6-12 month size as well out of the other half of the yard :)

Crafting365: day 18: Getting ready for MamaMade!

We're getting ready for MamaMade!

I've got mousebears needing faces, rabbits needing assembly and lots of other things to do. I made a list of the things I want to take along and printed it out to keep track of what (and how many) is done and what still needs work.

We also went to a library book sale in Paris, TN. I dropped off some of the official Mamamade flyers I printed out at the library. We picked up lots of cute children's books and some for us as well. This 1957 book is about a spacefaring cat who, with his master, goes to Mars. He wears a spacesuit and finds a female cat who comes back to Earth with them. Very silly but a nice little story!

Space Cat meets Mars
How can you not love that title?

The fabric I made some pants for Esme out of yesterday? The bright flowers on brown? There is another print in that same series called 'Esmerelda'! Just like we spell Esmerelda, too ;) It has pretty red zinnias on it (see here). I ordered a yard of it off of Ebay and will be making two sizes for her to grow into :)

Workshop

This is more organized than the workshop has been all year ;) Really, it is! It could still use some more work. I'd love to hear suggestions for keeping fabric better than this! The table to the left was recently repurposed from elsewhere in the house. It has already helped with productivity :)

MamaMade
Where: Lillie Belle's Tea House, Franklin, TN
When: April 26th, 2008 9 am to 2 pm
Who: Mommy crafters from Middle Tennessee

I've been talking about MamaMade here and there but it is a show entirely of mommy crafters that will take place in Franklin, TN (near Nashville) on April 26th. It starts at 9 am and goes until 2 pm. Mommies from around the region will bring their fine crafts to Lillie Belle's Tea House hoping to catch the crowd from the Franklin street fair. It sounds like a fun day and a great opportunity as well! Angel Funk, one of their coordinators, contacted me on Etsy through 'Buy Local' and sent me an application last week :) The application is going out today!
