February

Loki and Minion checking out the spiderwebs by the sewing machine
and enjoying the sunbeams.  On the wall is the acrylic painting 'The Yellow Light' from 2022

I've been cleaning up the studio a little, it's been years since I did much more than a drawing or painting here or there.  contemplating checking out if the sewing machine can work again, or if it needs to be replaced entirely.

a little shawl project to use up time in between things, one row here and there at a time

found some old supplies that worked fairly well for drawing still - I was impressed the pen refills still worked well - the paints did not fare as well but were still usable with some persuasion

went through lots of sewing materials and patterns and threw some things out, and planned what I need to start working on my large marshland painting setup that I dreamed up last fall

Year of the water Rabbit, a year for growth, mixed media sketch

playing with the Niji watercolors, some acrylic gold paint and ink

I drew and painted it from life.. took the photo later at about as close as I could get to what angle I must have been looking at.

The orange was actually still in a bag from the show on Sep 25 - it had been included as a 'treat' for the day but I was so busy I never looked any deeper into it.  I'm glad it hadn't went bad in there - and thought it was a good item to add to my thrift store finds of blue and white china I wanted specifically for adding to a still life with pears

Moving some things around in the studio, setting up different work stations

The drawing station is working really well - but I had to take one drawer out of the station because it kept sticking.  I've been working on more drawings for the House of Sunlight book, which has jumped from 14 stories to 19

Painting progression,

The Comfy Chair
painting progression showing how the details come in
7 inches by 14, wrapped canvas with blue edges

Finished this last night, inspired by a chair I saw in a magazine, and my own cat muses lounging around our house.  I guess it's even Caturday!

January Journals sketchbook #6

Ephesus Church and Hwy 77 near Paris, Tennessee
working from memory
will try to work from a photo next time, the frost on the hill and the way the sunlight came over was what I really wanted to capture, but without a color photograph it is hard to get the right colors from memory

journal today:
I want to remember t he way the sun looked over the fields coming down over the hill with the treeline dark and scattered and the sunlight over the frost in the  distance.  How the sun looked coming through red leaves and evergreen on the way to Camden this morning.  Red shining and the green soaking it in, spiky and assured.  All the little bits of rays of light coming in between.

and a challenge to see how your studio is set up at the moment...

I found it a little eerie I didn't mean to set up my paints into a color wheel, but they are.  But as always, my sense of the color wheel is not quite the same as others?  One artist tells me ROYGBIV but I see white into yellow, then of course yellows into greens and blues, and then because the purples are simply mixed, it goes to the reds, and the reds to black... and you can make brown across the table two ways - green and red or purple and yellow.. and then there is orange and blue which is usually a dark umber color or a way to mix gray if done just right.

Workshop

This is more organized than the workshop has been all year ;) Really, it is! It could still use some more work. I'd love to hear suggestions for keeping fabric better than this! The table to the left was recently repurposed from elsewhere in the house. It has already helped with productivity :)

At the KnitOwl shop
and waiting for MamaMade.

MamaMade
Where: Lillie Belle's Tea House, Franklin, TN
When: April 26th, 2008 9 am to 2 pm
Who: Mommy crafters from Middle Tennessee

I've been talking about MamaMade here and there but it is a show entirely of mommy crafters that will take place in Franklin, TN (near Nashville) on April 26th. It starts at 9 am and goes until 2 pm. Mommies from around the region will bring their fine crafts to Lillie Belle's Tea House hoping to catch the crowd from the Franklin street fair. It sounds like a fun day and a great opportunity as well! Angel Funk, one of their coordinators, contacted me on Etsy through 'Buy Local' and sent me an application last week :) The application is going out today!
