Esme's docor appointment

Esme does have a cold, and the doctor gave me some drops for her nose and some reccommendations. The doctor's appointment didn't cost much, but her vaccines aren't covered under our insurance. I asked them how much they would cost, but they said instead I need to go down tomorrow to the health department and fill out paperwork to see if Esme can get immunized under some statewide 'vaccines for healthy futures' program. It was really strange they wouldn't tell me what the cost would be. Instead they said just go and see if she is covered by that program first. If she isn't - then they'll tell me how much they cost. The closest to a number they would give me today was 'lots.'

No more word on my sister - except she tried to call for more money for bail that my mom didn't have. I wonder if my mom slept at all last night, she sounded so tired on the phone. Still no precise description of what Marcia did that has her in this much trouble.

I wonder why your insurance won't cover immunizations? It seems like a preventative measure?

That is odd that immunizations aren't covered - they usually are, because it's a lot cheaper to cover them than the care that getting those illnesses would require.

Actually it is that she was covered for everything under my insurance when she was born and now I have to get extra especially for her. I should have looked into this earlier instead of just expecting everything would be right.

That is odd but they do have something statewide for immunizations. Health care is whacky.

Insurance doesn't cover immunizations?!? That's fairly incredible.

Happy New Year.

Sorry to hear Esme has a cold. I hope she's feeling better soon.

It has been awhile since my kids have had immunizations but down here in Florida (Brevard County), a lot of people get their child's shots from a state program. It's free and all you have to do is bring the child's shot record. There is no qualifications to it. If your child is under the age of 18 then the shots are free. Here is a link to the program they offer here in Florida http://www.doh.state.fl.us/chdBrevard/comm_hlth/immus.htm. They might offer something similar in your area.

Health departments don't usually cost much. But I hate it when they can't or won't tell you how much something is.I'm sorry Esme has a cold, hope she gets better soon.

You should be able to find the cost on their website. They make no secret of it here. I think it's 10 bucks here. There might also be a free program for children.

I have discovered that doctors don't like to answer *any* questions. I think fear of lawsuits has rotted their minds.

Sorry your little angel is sick. :0(
