collection of thoughts

Flipped through a magazine at work today and found only two pages that had anything I could possibly live with in my house. What does that say about me? Hmm... Good things, I think. I rarely see anything in a 'design' book that is interesting enough to save for the future. These are like what I saw.

a bedspread set like the one in a magazine. Definitely would do a darker bedspread but the pillows were interesting - and the ones in the book had more of a 'black on light' square to them. Very sewable.

It was in pieces and not very stable so I did not bring it back from Minnesota. I should have anyway, maybe it could have been helped some. Perhaps I can make something like it in a woodshop in the next few years or find something like it at a thrift/flea market type atmosphere. The one I saw in the magazine that reminded me of it was a warm honey/orange colored wood. The thing that attracts me most to it is the closeable slat top that also opens up as the writing surface. My grandfather's had a pull out flat board underneath that helped support the slant-top when it was open.

A few mentions

Some things I've seen around today and liked:

Little Alouette toys. They have teething keys made of wood. I was looking for something like this for Esme back when she was very small, and never found it. They have the old fashioned ones like the plastic keys we grew up with, except they're wood!

And that led me to SMALL magazine, which I admit is very cool. Nice layout and focuses on small enterprises for children, clothes etc... a nice read and I hope to get time to visit their next issue.

And that's it - for now. All the toy orders were out in the mail on Monday. It was great to be done! I have four days off from my town job now, after seven days on, and am hoping to enjoy it! I just want to play with Esme and take her to see Grandma and run around the house/yard :) There will probably be some sewing in there too. Merry Christmas to you all and I'll probably pop back in whenever I have cute pictures or toys, but other than that it is relax time :)

Of DST and other woes...

We didn't have that much worry about Daylight Savings Time here - even with all the computers, servers and other time-oriented things. Mark spent that morning doing some clever fixes with zone info files. However, it is time for the puppy to make her visit to the vet - for her surgery. I'll be calling them later on today - poor Puck!

Schmidling.com: This guy has done amazing things with spinning and weaving. He spun and wove fabric to cut and sew his own shirt, and several other pieces of clothing. Not to mention his pages on astronomy, ham radio, silversmithing, gem grinding... just a total geek renaissance man. Check out all his pages and be amazed!

Also check out Chris' But since I wasn't blogging then contest. I reallly do regret not having a day by day entry of when the girls (Sally and Willowpede) were tiny kittens and just coming home for the first time. That was during a hiatus in my blogging. I still miss them terribly - Mouse reminds me so much of Sally that I've woken up in the night having to figure out exactly which cat is purring and pawing at me. *sigh*
